Astrology: what it is and what you should know about the study of the stars

Nearly eight billion people on Earth, and yet no two are alike. If the improbability of sharing something as minimalist as a fingerprint is scientifically proven, the chances of sharing something as complex as a personality with another individual becomes nil.

Astrology is like the programming code behind humanity, how does this code manage to encrypt over a hundred million absolutely diverse people every year? There is a variable that resides in each human being that cannot be shared with another: the exact coordinate between time and space at which each individual takes his or her first breath on earth. According to astrology, it is from this point that the map, or fingerprint, of an authentic character is encoded. What we might call the cosmic DNA. A DNA that explains how two siblings, genetically similar, born under the same roof and in the same family, can be so different from each other.

According to modern science, astrology lacks explanatory power. It is a discipline that marries science and faith. Science, because it is a body of systematic knowledge that is studied and explained, and faith, because beyond any explanation, there is an unexplainable component to science that makes astrology a matter of belief; a rather occult science; a discipline that comes alive with a magical pinch of stardust.

Only through time and experience is it possible to understand this interpretative art, which can explain everything except one thing: how can it be? After long years of complex studies, the most brilliant astrologers manage to understand the same thing that Socrates acknowledged when he said that the only thing he knew was that he knew nothing.

Astrology is the speech of the stars. That is the meaning of the word astrology, which comes from Latin. More than 4000 years old, this discipline consists of the study of the position and movement of the stars in the sky, the interpretation of which aims to decipher the energies available at a given time and place, and how these affect the personal, social and transpersonal level.

Astrology studies the position and movements of celestial bodies - such as the planets, sun, moon and stars - and how these affect both the earth and the lives of its inhabitants.

There are many professional opportunities for astrologers. From personalised consultations to the expansion of millenary wisdom through talks, courses, articles and texts that adapt this discipline to modern times.

The most usual thing, in a personal appointment with an astrologer, is to ask for the astrological chart or the solar revolution. While the former reveals a person's cosmic DNA, the latter exposes the potential energies available that manifest themselves in a person's solar year, that is, from birthday to birthday. Depending on the astrologer's vision, these sessions can be more or less predictive. Many contemporary astrologers eschew prediction and use astrology as a means of empowering the querent, exposing the tools - or energies at their disposal - that they have and will have at their fingertips to chart their own destiny and make their dreams come true.

In the face of modern science, astrology lacks explanatory power. Throughout history, human beings have labelled as 'magic' anything that escapes rational understanding. Primitive men considered fire to be a product of magic, until they finally deciphered the mystery behind this powerful element. Just a thought to ponder, looking up at the stars at night...
